Mugato seems too easy and good to be true
Morten Hedegaard, CIO, has been using Mugato since 2017 in various jobs. He describes the solution as a bag of LEGO bricks: a simple approach with an infinite space of opportunity.
“Mugato is easy and intuitive to use – the solution is significantly different than everything the industry has seen so far. Mugato is so accessible and transparent that it almost seems untrustworthy. MUGATO is a great tool that has great value a CIO’s toolbox.”
Morten Hedegaard states at the beginning:
“With MUGATO, I can create an overview and see the connections in the complete IT infrastructure from several different angles. MUGATO gives IT and the business a common insight and understanding to prioritize where you can use the gunpoch. We get a common language to manage and orchestral things,” says Morten.

Managed the municipality’s infrastructure and application landscape
For six years, until the beginning of 2023, Morten as head of digitization and IT in Jammerbugt Municipality was responsible for the operation and security of the municipality’s infrastructure and application landscape with approx. 400 applications.
“With Mugato, I got a handle on the municipality’s infrastructure right down to the server level and an overview of the application layer with approx. 400 applications.” Morten says.
“MUGATO visualizes the entire IT environment live, e.g. performance on the servers, the performance of the servers. For example, if there are servers that fail or lag, I can immediately see if the problem exists in my transport layer or at server level instead of spending hours looking for the needle in the haystack,” he elaborates.
A graduated picture of IT security – live
The job as CIO in Jammerbugt Municipality also entailed the overall responsibility for the municipality’s IT security.
“MUGATO gives me both a comprehensive overview and a graduated picture of IT security. I get a basis that enables me to make decisions.”
He says that before he started using Mugato, he could dig out the information, for example, by looking in the municipality’s firewalls. But it would require specialist skills to orientate themselves and gain knowledge about what was actually going on. With MUGATO, he can orient himself and get the necessary knowledge.
“Mugato shows me, for example, how the entire server environment is patched or whether there are changes in the services that run on our servers. If that’s the case, I can get a live picture of where in the world you try to access which servers and services, and I can see dependencies on other servers and services – also in the world outside my own domain – so I can get a picture of how exposed I am if hackers come in right here.”
At the forefront of IT environment and infrastructure with MUGATO
“Over all the years I have used Mugato , I have repeatedly experienced how Mugato has put me at the forefront of our IT environment and infrastructure,” says Morten.
“Mugato makes all sorts of different things visible before I become aware of the fact that here is something we should deal with. It can be to create an overview of old debt (legacy IT) and find shadow IT – or discover that certificates have stopped working,” he gives as an example.
Overview and transparency at system and service level
Morten has extensive experience in the use of Mugato– an experience that also includes business mergers.
“With company mergers, there is often a need to be able to look ahead, but in order to do so, it is necessary to be able to look backwards at the same time. With Mugato I get just that opportunity, as the tool gives the insight I need in the work of making a plan that lasts.”, Morten points.
“Across the entire transformation, I will make sure that the overall IT platform’s interaction with the merged companies’ locations and applications is supported,” he elaborates.
“I need to bring together the merger process in systems and services. Usually it is difficult to disassemble services due to dependencies, but with MugatoI can quickly get an overview and transparency in what is going on – before we are about to separate it all,” explains Morten, pointing to another advantage of Mugato: “Mugato provides the opportunity to create the necessary dialogue and common language in common – at all levels of the organization.”
Clear call: Mugato must be experienced
Morten would also like to challenge the defensive habitual thinking that as long as things are running well and stable, you should not take the risk of trying new solutions – such as Mugato.
“All of us who work professionally with IT are used to the fact that it is extremely risky and associated with heavy and complex processes to implement new technology in a running environment. Operational stability and performance are not something we gamble with.” he recognizes.
But at the same time, he calls for IT professionals, precisely by virtue of their knowledge, not to be so locked in their thinking and daily lives that they opt out of the possibilities with Mugato.
“Mugato must be experienced. Mugato seems too easy and good to be true and goes against decades of experience and habitual thinking: The solution is quick and simple to implement, you can’t do a lot of things along the way, and you don’t experience performance challenges,” Morten says. “Mugato is a completely new way of operating and developing IT.”
Mugato brings together all options in one solution
“Mugato is like a bag of LEGO bricks: a simple approach with an endless space of opportunity. I decide which bricks I want to build with and how I want to build to put Mugato in play in my organization.” Morten Explains.
“The unique thing about Mugato is that all options are gathered in one solution, and it all takes place live. With Mugato, I have experienced full value for money within a very short time, because Mugato is such an effective solution,” says Morten.
